Deputy Premier Steven Miles announced today Economic Development Queensland will accelerate capital investment in property developments to deliver construction projects and jobs across the state.

Mr Miles said in the next 12 – 24 months EDQ would invest a record more than $200 million in South East Queensland alone across a range of project types from site enabling infrastructure works to complex building projects.

“EDQ’s capital works program will support over 650 construction jobs and enable more than $1 billion in private sector investment,” Mr Miles said.

“This capital works program is about building industry confidence, generating jobs and economic growth, innovation and maximising our potential across civil and construction sectors.

“There are over twenty projects including road works, services and civil infrastructure, building and refurbishment contracts ranging from $0.5 million to $20 million.

“The recently announced delivery of a new research and manufacturing facility at Northshore for Vaxxas to produce over 300 million needle-free vaccines a year is just one example of an innovative project that EDQ will be seeking open market Expressions of Interest for this year.

“These projects are not just opportunities for large companies, we are also seeking involvement across the board, from small businesses, indigenous businesses or businesses increasing capability and scale.”

To hear firsthand about the program of works and the state government’s procurement process, EDQ will be holding a briefing session at the Civil Contractors Federation on Thursday 28 January 2021.

Mr Miles encouraged local contractors to attend the briefing session.

“Local contractors have the opportunity to register and hear firsthand about the Palaszczuk Government’s record investment in Queensland,” Mr Miles said.

“We welcome industry to attend and help us create vital construction projects and jobs across the state.”

The EDQ works program briefing will be held at the Civil Contractors Federation offices, Brisbane Technology Park, 11 Hi Tech Ct, Eight Mile Plains on Tuesday 2 February 2021 commencing at 7.00am. For those unable to attend in person there will be arrangements to livestream the session.
